Executive and Artistic Directors

  • Directors Marcia De La Garza Marcia De La Garza, Executive Director of New York International Ballet Competition (NYIBC). Ms. De La Garza came to the position of Executive Director of NYIBC after serving the organization in diverse capacities since 2005. Prior to that, she was Dance and Music Coordinator at Espacio Cultural Metropolitano (METRO) in her hometown of Tampico, Mexico, where she was responsible for international programming, special projects, performances, workshops, conferences, ballet galas and tours. In the inaugural year of METRO, Marcia served as Executive Producer of The Nutcracker, the first ballet production of its kind for the city of Tampico. Marcia is a Board Member of the International Dance Committee of the International Theater Institute (ITI), the World Organization for the Performing Arts founded by UNESCO and international theatre experts in 1948. She is also Vice-President for the North America region of World Dance Alliance-Americas. Marcia holds a B.A. in business administration from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) and an M.A. in arts administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.

  • Eleanor D’Antuono, NYIBC Artistic Director since 1996, epitomized the best of 20th century ballet in an extraordinary performing career that began with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo when she was just 14. She went on to spend 20 years as a prima ballerina with American Ballet Theatre.Throughout her career, Ms. D’Antuono received accolades from the public and press alike for her performances in Swan Lake, Giselle, and Sleeping Beauty. She also performed extensively in ballets by Balanchine, Tudor, Lander, and Joffrey, as well as in Alvin Ailey’s The River.Marked by fiery virtuosity, unique lyricism, and bravura technique, she was known as an outstanding partner, and among her memorable partners were Igor Youskevitch, Paolo Bertoluzzi, Rudolf Nureyev, Fernando Bujones, Ted Kivitt and John Meehan.Ms. D’Antuono is artistic advisor in residence to the New Jersey Ballet and The Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts in Connecticut. She is highly in demand to teach and coach professionals and to stage the ballet classics nationwide. She has served on the NY State Council on the Arts, and has been the recipient of many dance awards, including the First Gubernatorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Dance, NYS, 1979.
